A scholarship from the Berlin Senate brought trombonist Anke Lucks, baritone saxophonist Almut Schlichting and drummer Christian Marien together in 2017. All three had long been important exponents of the Berlin jazz scene since their music studies had brought them to the capital. It seems that when they met, they made music extremely intensively - to the point of sleepless nights. In any case they promptly formed a band called “Insomnia Brass Band” and released their debut album “Late Night Kitchen” in 2021. The music is all the more exhilarating: from New Orleans brass blues to bebop and funk to punk rock and free jazz elements, the bandwidth of this unusual trio, which sometimes sounds like an entire brass orchestra. And which was awarded the German Jazz Prize as "Band of the Year" in 2023 for its fantastic, somnambule music. At the Bayerischer Hof, the Insomnia Brass Band will be presenting their new album, the title of which the origin could have a sleepless night too: "Crooked Alligator".
