For several years now, Chilean-born, New York-based saxophonist Melissa Aldana has been following in the footsteps of Sonny Rollins and Wayne Shorter with increasing success. Like her great role models, she is now under contract with the famous US label Blue Note. Her first there in 2012 released album “12 Stars” was immediately nominated for a Grammy. Her new project “Echoes Of The Inner Prophet” - a direct allusion to a Wayne Shorter piece - deals with her most recent personal development, “including things I don't like”, as she says. However, her compositions are not only introspective and impressionistic, they also cultivate and celebrate collaborative storytelling with a band. And for her current quartet, in addition to the young New York star Kush Abadey on drums and her compatriot Pablo Menares as bassist and co-composer, Aldana found the ideal accompanist in Cologne's Pablo Held, who has been one of the best German jazz pianists with his trio for many years. It's the mix that makes the difference - and promises an outstanding concert experience.
